Heart Health

How old is your heart ?

It may sound like a silly question – but how old is YOUR heart ?

Thanks to the Heart Foundation, it is now possible to calculate your ‘heart age’ and understand a little more about your risks of having a heart attack or stroke. The new Heart Age Calculator  is also a great way to take stock, and start thinking about any lifestyle changes you can make to reduce those risks.

It might surprise you to know that in 2017, 22 Australians every day died from stroke, while 21 deaths were caused by sudden heart attacks (Australian Bureau of Statistics)  – and over 30,000 of those heart attacks were in people under 55 years of age.

Sadly, many people don’t think about heart health until they have symptoms, but this handy new online tool helps to alert you of things that may become an issue. This interactive quiz is designed for people aged 35 – 75 years, who don’t have a known history of heart health issues: It is not intended to replace a consultation with your GP, in fact it is a great conversation starter at your next visit regardless of the quiz result.

Just think about the hard work our heart does for us from before we’re born until the day that we take out last breath – surely it deserves a little attention from time to time.
