Stepping On is a FREE community program, aiming to reduce the risk of falls and increase confidence to remain independent as you age.
The program, funded by NSW Health, covers things like:
- how to get up safely if you have a fall
- how to choose safer shoes
- negotiating space when vision is poor
- being mobile in the community
- reducing fall hazards in your home
- managing your medications
- good nutrition, and maintaining healthy bones
Each day of the 7 week Program, there is an education session as well as strength and balance exercises.
A morning tea break, complete with healthy snacks, allows participants to get to know each other.
The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District runs Stepping On Programs in Community Halls, Church Halls and Community Centres across Penrith, Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Hawkesbury Local Government Areas. There will be new Programs starting early in 2019 at Portland, North St Marys, Hawkesbury and Lithgow….and the good news is that research is showing a 31% drop in falls as a result of the Program.
To find out more, visit the NSW Health Active and Healthy site, or call the local Stepping On Co-ordinator on 4734 3877.
Bookings are essential, and eligibility will be determined over the phone.
